Girona, Spain October 19-22 2022

Updated: Nov 21, 2022

Girona is about an hour drive from Barcelona. It is more rural and is strategically on the route through the Pyrenees mountains to France. It has been captured 21 times! It was originally a Roman city and much of the architecture and streets from that time are still visible.

I visited a spa- it had several different saunas and pools of water at different temperatures. The walls were the original walls from roman baths from Roman times! No picture- because it was a SPA!!! Girona was my favorite of the trip. It is an old city, and you can even walk on one of the walls that used to surround Girona. If you watch Game of Thrones you may recognize some of the Girona scenery.

The Wall. Funny how The Wall has such different connotations on my trip. The Wall in Berlin versus the wall in Girona…..

Me jogging the wall!!!!!

Typical Street in the old part of Girona

Sant Narcís is the patron saint of Girona and we just missed the celebration. There is some story about his grave being robbed and flies coming out and making conquering troops sick- so you always see flie with Sant Narcís . School kids were all over the day we left drawing poster for a Sant Narcís Day Competition

The Cathedral- this is the iconic Girona stairs seen in Game of Thrones

Part of a Roman Bath in Girona. This Roman bath was repurposed for a convent laundry at one time.

Inside a Winery near Girona, Cellar Brugarol. I had the salt fish and Mark had the lamb for lunch. Muy bien! We all wanted the unique metal wine labels the winery used to label their wine>: In addition to wine, this vineyard has olives. We saw and tasted olive oil being made

Our hotel in Girona “The Legends” was big into Salvador Dali. Dali is from the area. The busts behind me are Dali at different stages of his life. I call this “Coffee with Dali”- at least I didn’t play cards with him……(Taylor Swift reference for those of you not in the know)>

This was a tiny cheese shop where they had goats make goat cheese. They make it by hand there and only have three people working. This was a village we stopped at on the drive to Girona.

The Cathedral in Girona. We had a fun tour group. Our guide, Carlos, took the picture. Elizabeth, Roxanne, Sheila, Karen, Mark
